1689 Raising the Standard

John Graham of Claverhouse, 1st Viscount Dundee

Born 1648 Died 1689

John Graham of Claverhouse was a Scottish soldier and nobleman. He led the Jacobite rebellion of 1689. It is believed that he raised the Royal Standard in support of the overthrown King James VII on the Law sometime before going to the Battle of Killiecrankie where the Jacobites defeated the Williamite forces. However Graham was injured in the battle and died on the same day.

This stained glass window is in Dundee City Chambers, and shows John Graham leaving his residence at Dudhope Castle to travel to Killicrankie.
